Our Approach

Philosophy

Care should feel human. It should ease burdens, rather than adding to them. At Compass Home Care, we work from three guiding principles:

1

Dignity First

Every person deserves respect, autonomy and the right to make decisions about their care.

2

Comfort over Crisis

We focus on symptom relief, calm routines, and preventing distress rather than reacting to it.

3

Family Centric

Illness affects everyone. We support loved ones with education, reassurance and space to rest.

How We Work

  • We listen first. Every care plan starts with understanding your goals and what matters most.

  • We collaborate. We work alongside your GP, specialists, and family to ensure continuity of care.

  • We adapt as needs change. Illness evolves — your care should, too.

  • We show up with presence. Not rushed. Not task-focused. Fully there.

The result is care that feels calm, consistent and grounded.

Who will be providing the care?

All care is provided personally by Registered Nurse Jarrod Wolhuter, an experienced clinician with a background in palliative care, acute care, mental health, and community health. You will always know exactly who is coming into your home, and you’ll receive consistent, relationship-based care every visit.

What is palliative care?

Palliative care is specialised care for people living with a life-limiting illness. It focuses on comfort, quality of life, symptom management, and emotional and practical support.

Do I need a referral from my GP or specialist?

No, you can contact us directly.
However, with your permission, we will collaborate with your GP, specialists and other providers to ensure safe, coordinated care.

Can you help with pain and symptom management?

Yes. As a registered nurse, Jarrod can support pain management strategies, monitor symptoms, assist with medication administration, and provide guidance to families.
We work closely with your existing medical team to ensure changes in your condition are communicated and addressed promptly.

Are your services covered by Medicare?

Private in-home nursing and palliative care services are not usually covered by Medicare, except in limited circumstances through specific GP-led programs.
Most clients pay privately, or through:

  • Private health insurance (depending on extras/coverage)

  • Home Care Packages (if funds are flexible and provider allows RN services)

  • NDIS (for eligible participants with nursing needs or daily living support)

We can assist with documentation if you plan to claim via insurance or a care package.

Do you accept NDIS participants?

Yes, we can support self-managed and plan-managed NDIS participants.
Services may include nursing care, health monitoring, daily living assistance, community support, and companionship.

Do you charge a call-out fee?

No , we don’t charge a call-out fee. There is a minimum booking time that you can find in the Services tab.

How do I pay for services?

Invoices are issued weekly or fortnightly, depending on your preference.
Payment can be made via bank transfer, or NDIS plan manager (for approved plans).

Can you help our family understand what to expect as illness progresses?

Absolutely. One of the most valuable aspects of palliative nursing is helping families feel prepared, supported and informed. We provide expert education about what to expect, how symptoms may change, and how best to support your loved one at home.

Do you work with other healthcare providers?

Yes, with your consent.
We collaborate with GPs, specialists, hospitals, allied health practitioners, and community services to ensure your care is coordinated and seamless.

Let us help you find care that's right for you.
